MEDITATION + Adrenals (and how to make the practice last!)
How often has someone told you that to relieve your stress you need to meditate, but your response is: My stress and life would be better if I meditated BUT:
It’s too hard
I can’t quiet my mind
I can’t sit still long enough
I don’t have the time.
This information came from Light Watkin’s (lightwatkins.com). The specific studies he discovered, focused on non-directive meditation techniques from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Based on their findings, here are a few tools to try: truly fascinating and will blow your mind, so keep reading and then give these a try! Trust me, your adrenals will thank you! 😊
Let the mind DRIFT AND WONDER from one thought to the next
a. This gets you to a an increased state of mental and emotional engagement
b. Activates a rest network, meaning your brain is actually in a deeper state of rest than the one you get when you sleep at night.
c. It will bring a high level of order-ness and efficiency to your mind – this is symptomatic of your mind working through the problems in your life
Sit comfortably, let your back be supported and sit like you are watching your favorite TV show
a. This will prevent you from being distracted about your body’s comfort level and allow step #1 to be more effective.
Daily meditation is the ONLY activity that will give you back the time you put into it
a. Chronological age: advances once every twelve months (aka your birthday)
b. Biological age: speeds up or slows down based on how much stress you have in your body
c. Meditation has a REVERSAL effect on biological aging
In a study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience, researchers found that if you had a matching chronological and biological age on your 30th birthday and you started meditating daily, by the time you were 35 you had the skin elasticity, the sexual responsiveness, the auditory threshold and the vision and memory of a 23-year-old version of yourself!!!
OK WHAT? How does that work? Based off of this, your biological age is seven years younger than your chronological age. To be honest… I don’t know how it works, but I believe that it TRULY DOES WORK. When you think you don’t have time to meditate or you can’t sit still or your mind wanders, those are all GOOD things! Meditation is not meant to be hard, nor do you have to practice it for hours a day. Try 3-5 minutes daily and you will be amazed with how much you get back in your life and not to mention your adrenals will give you a serious high five for giving them the rest they need! <3
