A periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is the main surgical treatment for adolescents and adults with hip dysplasia who experience pain and are limited in their daily function. With a labral tear (a tear in the cartilage surrounding the hip joint that occurs in some patients with hip dysplasia) PAO may be combined with hip arthroscopy to treat the tear. Physical therapy will help strengthen the muscles around the hip and pelvis, restore range of motion of the hip joint, and integrate the newly aligned hip into a patient’s overall daily function.
Through Dr. May’s very own hip surgeries (PAO’s & labral reconstructions), she very intimately knows and feels what you are going through, and it has given her so much more insight as to how to best care for her patients. Rehabilitation from these procedures is near and dear to Dr. May’s heart, and something she is passionate about and takes pride in specializing in.
